Alicia Hall Moran has starred as Bess on the National Tour of Gershwins' Porgy and Bess. She also portrayed Bess on Broadway (as Understudy and then as Alternate) in the Tony Award-winning Broadway production. Ms. Moran is in demand as an interpreter of Gershwin: Jazz@Lincoln Center’s Gershwin & Beyond, National Symphony Orchestra Pops’ Forever Gershwin (2016), Festival Miami’s Gershwin! with Frost Wind Ensemble, and Gershwin Medley with Joseph Joubert for Museum of Modern Art and The Rainbow Room. Recent jazz engagements include the legendary Stone, the Village Vanguard, and festivals abroad (Norway, Japan, Belgium) with pianist husband Jason Moran.
Following up the Motown project (her Classical take on Motown hits), Moran stars in The Five Fans commissioned by National Sawdust music center. She also tours with guitarist Brandon Ross in her band, AiR. She previously toured with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company’s award-winning show Chapel/Chapter and appears in several films as a singer, including Simone Leigh’s Breakdown and Carrie Weems’ Slow Fade To Black. Ms. Moran has performed critically acclaimed shows for the 2015 Venice Biennale, the Whitney Biennial, the Museum of Modern Art, Boston’s Gardner Museum, and ArtPublic for Miami Art Basel.
